I am a Bipoc writer and I have been writing in some format or another for most of my life. As a little girl, I would write short stories and fashion them after the Sweet Valley High books of the 80’s. As I got older, my stories got a little less sweet and more psychological and thrilling. Any time I would start a romance, I’d get up for a glass of water and before I knew it, someone would go missing. I gravitate to writing thrillers, but, you will see a romance and a vampire tale come available from me in in the near future.
I grew up reading a lot of Stephen King, Sidney Sheldon, Shakespeare, Dorothy Parker, Toni Morrison and Lois Lowry, but lets not forget Shel Silverstein. Having taken Shakespeare and Post-Modern fiction courses in college, the influence spun a bit of a wild, upside-down layer to many of my future works.
I’ve always been fascinated with things that aren’t quite as they seem. Those things that are the reality hidden behind the façade, sometimes beautiful and amazing, sometimes daunting and scary, other times, the things that break our hearts in the most human way with the truths of life. With that, I don’t stick to one specific genre. I go where my stories and characters take me and that’s what I write.
I am a firm believer that dreams take dedication, passion, and discipline, and for anyone, dreams are possible. If you want to be a writer, commit to learning what you need to learn and then write. If you want to be a painter, stock broker, home builder, yoga master or any of a plethora of amazing crafts one can undertake, do the work and the reward will come. It may not look as you expected, but the reward will be what you needed.
It’s up to you to find your path.
